I was recently asked to be interviewed regarding most of the major themes of “Create Marketplace Disruption” and why they are timely – and important – to businesses globally. A few exerpts from those interviews have been edited, and are being sent to me for posting on YouTube and Facebook. This is the first in the series.
Is it possible, without being an insider, to discover evidence of lock-in that complements the clearest sign: stalled growth or decline?
You have clearly articulated the case for lock-in. But this specific issue touches a nerve in everyone who is part of such a situation.
To tackle lock-in, requires walking a new and unknown road. It involves the fear of uncertain things. It involves the pain of changing deeply ingrained habits of thinking, speaking and doing.
Every person who is part of a “locked-in” situation has lost, or is losing the appetite for new things, meaning ultimately that the appetite for innovation and market disruption is also being lost.
So, to help tackle this fear and handle the pain of change, it may help to look at how lock-in plays out with more and more real-world examples.
